Anneke Updates

November 1, 2012: I was invited to appear via Skype at the Apex Book Discussion SIG, located in Phoenix by Slave Wen, someone I met at the Master/slave conference -- what a great conversation; thanks, Wen! She was enthusiastic about my offer to read as well as discuss. Conversing via Skype with a whole group was a strange but cool experience - kind of in the room and kind of on some other planet. How not to be mesmerized by doms in leather vests. Great fun.

October 16, 2012: Okay, if I thought being asked for book quotes was an honour, what can I say now? Molly Weatherfield has asked me to write the forward to the new edition of 'Safe Word'! This is really exciting. Mind you, it also means I'm going to have to put in some serious work. English Lit commentary about bdsm, something I've always wanted to do.

September 2, 2012: After much angst, including but not confined to wardrobe angst, I flew down to the Master/slave conference in Washington D.C and sat on the panel with Laura Antoniou. She is a powerful, highly entertaining speaker, and so of course I was right out of my league (though not without a few good points). Laura was gracious and not entirely terrifying. I'll have to get hold of her mystery, 'The Killer Wore Leather', when it comes out; it sounds hilarious. The whole weekend experience was terrific, I sold a few books and what can I say? One more minor claim to fame.

August 22, 2012: Molly Weatherfield has asked ME for author quotes! Cleis is planning new editions of 'Carrie's Story' and 'Safe Word' for later this year. Molly Weatherfield's books taught me a great deal about how to write a bdsm novel, and I've never seen her equal. So this is a pretty amazing request.

January 24, 2012: I’ve been invited to be on a panel on m/s erotic fiction with Laura Antoniou and David Stein at the next Masters/Slaves conference. (The panel’s not for sure yet, but probably will be.) Oh my god, this is terrifying! And yes, I'm going. I can't pass up a chance like this.

March 22, 2012: Sarah F. on Dear Author has posted a remarkable review of 'Owned and Owner.' Here's a quick excerpt:

The brilliant thing about this book, the thing that made it work for me, that made it one of the hottest things I’ve ever EVER read, was the 110% consensual nature of what happens in the book. The narrator is beaten, humiliated, fucked, shared, turned into an animal with no will of her own, and she craves every single thing that’s done to her. Every woman discussed in the book is utterly happy with her situation. The rightness of the situation for the characters is written into every word of the story. So readers can have their non-con with an utterly clear conscience.

October 13, 2011: BDSMBookReviews.com has just given 'As She's Told' five out of five paddled and a great review. (The site is bdsmbookreviews.com, a new review site; not the same as the one mentioned below, bdsmbookreviews.blogspot.com.)

December 30, 2010: 'As She's Told' is Number One of the Top Ten BDSM Books of 2010 at BDSM Book Reviews! Thanks again, Kirsten! (It came out in 2008, but promotion is a slow process...)

August 12, 2010: Kirsten of BDSM Book Reviews has also posted a review of 'Owned and Owner'. Her ratings once again are: "Book Rating 10 of 10, Heat Level 5 of 5, Intensity Level 10 of 10." I'm feeling seriously honoured here...Thanks Kirsten!

August 3, 2010: A new review of 'As She's Told' has just been posted by Kirsten at her bdsm book review site. Her ratings: "Book Rating 10 of 10, Heat Level 5 of 5, Intensity Level 10 of 10." Wow!

February 28, 2010: I've just come across some thoughtful remarks about 'As She's Told' by Kerri, a BC blogger. She finds the book fascinating and disturbing, particularly in relation to the issue of consent to total power exchange. An interesting commentary.

January 30, 2010: Would you like to hear a bedtime story? Nobilis Erotica, which presents podcasts of erotica read aloud, has just posted an excerpt from 'As She's Told', read by Beq Vyper.

January 21, 2010: Equus Eroticus has just published an extremely kind review of 'Owned and Owner' by JG Leathers. This is a real honour from a man who is something of an icon and Grand Master in the world of ponyplay and other kink.

January 1, 2010: Erotic romance author Amanda Young interviews other authors regularly on her site. She's just posted an interview with me at amandayoung.org. Questions are on the naughty side, some of them; if you want to know what my favourite dirty word is, check it out!

December 11, 2009: I had the pleasure of being a guest on Chastity Chat, an internet radio program run by Jillian Davis of Locked in Steel. You can listen to the podcast here. Of course, orgasm denial and chastity hardware are major themes in both 'As She's Told' and 'Owned and Owner.'

November 21, 2009: Nadia West has just posted a review of 'As She's Told' on her blog, Diary of a Kinky Librarian. A great review, and she notices some things that others haven't.

November 15, 2009: A new review of 'As She's Told' has just been posted on Kink-E-Zine. [Unfortunately the e-zine is now down for an indefinite period; for the review, see the 'As She's Told' reviews page.] A warm and thoughtful write-up by Zsander, their staff book critic, with lots of quotes and a very positive response to the book.

October 22, 2009: Erotic Awakening has just uploaded a podcast about erotic language, talking dirty, and all the wonderful words in your toybag. Plus an interview with me about 'As She's Told,' and how I got to be a writer in the first place (answer: v-e-r-y slowly).

October 7, 2009: Master Void has posted an interview with me on his blog at houseofvoid.com. I really enjoyed responding to MV's questions; how many times do you get to answer a question like "What's important?" Hey, if someone really wants to know, I'll tell them!

September 2, 2009: Graydancer, rigger and rope pocaster supreme, just released his latest episode of The Ropecast, in which he interviews me about my books; mostly about 'As She's Told', a little bit about 'Owned and Owner'. Thanks so much, Graydancer; I had a great time!

Here's the direct download link: http://media.libsyn.com/media/graydancer/rc090209.mp3 Or go and have a look at the podcast webpage at www.ropecast.net.

Graydancer has three books of his own which I'm looking forward to reading; the most recent one, Jujun, is just out.

September 1, 2009: A new review of 'As She's Told' has just been posted at Erotica Revealed, a site dedicated to thoughtful and intelligent critiques of erotic literature. The review was written, I'm honoured to say, by author Lisabet Sarai. She refers to 'As She's Told' as a "remarkable novel" which she finds "exciting, disturbing and challenging." It's a little extreme for her taste, but she still gives it two thumbs up!

August 10, 2009: Copies of 'Owned and Owner' are available at Northbound Leather in Toronto -- only a few; get them while you can! If you don't see them, ask for them.

July 11, 2009: Check out 'Oh Get a Grip!', a wonderful blog by six erotica authors (Lisabet Sarai, Jude Mason, Jenna Byrnes, Helen E. H. Madden, C. Sanchez-Garcia and Ashley Lister). An honour to be in such company! This week I get to be the guest blogger, the topic being 'Research.' Ashley Lister very kindly invited me, saying that as I put so much research into 'As She's Told,', I'd be the right one for the job.

How to get all the trials, tribulations, funny stories, and at least one enticing excerpt into 1200 words? Have a look and see if I managed it.

July 9, 2009: I'm going to be a guest on Wild Card Radio, a bdsm- and fetish-themed web radio talk show that runs from 11 p.m. to 12:30 EST every Thursday night. We're going to talk a bit about 'As She's Told,' Dave, the host will be reading an excerpt, and we'll be chatting about the creation of bdsm fiction.

Here's a direct link to the show: www.blogtalkradio.com/Dave2112. Please listen in (or check out the podcast later). You can also phone in with comments or questions: 347-237-4947. There'll be a chat room as well; for a username, register at www.blogtalkradio.com.
