Ridgeway Forge - Reproduction Chastity Belts

David Renwick did not set out to make chastity belts for a living, but during the 60's and 70's he made quite a few. He was mentioned in a 1969 issue of Time Magazine. One of the visitors to these web pages was kind enough to loan the article and some photographs of Mr. Renwick's product.

It is unknown if Mr. Renwick is still in the business, or even if he is alive. He would be 60 years old now.

The sales letter written in November 1969 includes the following description:

Our Reproduction Chastity Belt is an exact copy of a belt made in either the 13th or 14th Century though no certain date is obtainable. Each belt is complete with 4 hinges, hand forged in the traditional manner which has been used by blacksmiths throughout the ages.

As you will see from the photographs, there is considerable hand pierced ornamentation and they are supplied complete with padlock and 2 keys. The finish is exactly the same as old bright clean armour, and they are dispatched in the oiled condition. The forging marks left by the blacksmiths hammer give the correct patina and finish which would be found on any article of antiquity.

In 1977, Mr. Renwick also designed and built a male version of the iron chastity belt. The drawing shows the concept and these photos show the finished design. The owner of the belt reported that it was very secure, and very sturdy. However, because it was made out of mild steel, it would rust. And because it had no edgework to protect the skin from sharp edges, it is not comfortable or suitable for long term wear.
