I haven't seen any mention of armourers as possible sources. One source I've come across is a catalog from the Blankenshield Armoury, run by Matthew Cross, a metal smith and pioneering practitioner of modern full armour live steel sword fighting. His catalog pictures an historic reproduction female chastity belt, metal, with serrated edged openings front and rear. He says it is functional but not suggested for long-term wear. There is no protection against cutting off the padlock. I took note of the price of $100 for xs/s/m, $150 for l/xl, and $200 for huge. I haven't followed up since ordering the print catalog, as I'm looking for a design more comfortable than historic. I came across a nine page chastity belt entry in an encyclopedia of sexual terms; this entry was written by Dingwall several years after he wrote The Chastity Belt. In it he summarizes the information from his book, and includes updates such as a report of a man encountering a woman wearing a chastity belt at a Public Works Camp on the coast of New Zealand, and reports of chastity belt use in colonial Pennsylvania by Ulster Scott pioneers. I don't know the name of the encyclopedia and have moved away from the city and library where I found it, but I did photocopy the entry and can send it to you if you like.
Altairboys comments: I also saw the reference to the Public Works Camp in a small booklet republished by Gauntlet titled Chastity Safeguards, by A.E. Niemoeller - A study of the mechanical means of preventing sexual indulgence in both men and women, employed in different times and countries. This little booklet was originally published in 1947. It sells for less than $5.00, and you can order one from Gauntlet by calling 800-746-4728.
I just found an obsolete address and phone listing on Jan THOR's page for Second Skin Metal Co. I own leather-lined metal wrist and ankle cuffs from this company, purchased elsewhere, which are quite good. I'm wondering if you've heard anything about them.
Altairboy's comments: I called them, their correct phone number is 504-561-8167, and they have a store front at 521 Rue St. Philip, New Orleans, LA 70116. They sell mostly leather male and female chastity belts, male chastity devices, Centurians' Cock Cuff. The owner of the shop did at one time make "decorative" metal male belts that were functional (lock), but no longer do so. They sell mostly leather bondage material.
The author of the French newspaper article you've posted cites as his main source of information a representative of the M.G.L. Company of Rue St-Denis in Paris. The M.G.L. company is apparently still in business, as it is listed in the supplier's list in the fetish fashion FAQ part 8. (144 Rue St-Denis, 75002 Paris, tel (+33) 42 21 33 34). It might be interesting to contact them for updated information, but I speak too little French.
Altairboy's comments: MGL is still in business. The initials stand for the owner, Maurice G. Lasky (sp?). He was the source for the generic fitting belts used in the VMD video "La Ceinture de Chastete." His English is good enough according to people that have talked with him. He apparently is an old friend of Hal Higginbottom (Tollyboy owner). There also was an article in the French version of Penthouse that shows a dozen or so belts hanging from an iron gate - MGL was the source for the majority of them.
Update 97-06-12 I called the owner of MGL this morning. He said he does not supply chastity belts anymore. He does not know of any company that sells chastity belts in France. He mentioned that when he did sell belts, they took up to one year for delivery (!!)
