I thought you'd like to know how we're getting on with Ruth's belt. We emailed Richard Davies of Tollyboy with a description of our fitting problem, and after a couple of helpful exchanges, it became obvious that the only real problem we had was the positioning of the rear chains attachment points on the belt and the rear chains lengths. We came up with the following plan: we'd use cable ties to hold the chains onto the belt temporarily, trying various positions until the perfect fit was achieved, and then pack the belt off to Richard with the cable ties in situ, where two new D-rings would be fitted and the chain length corrected.
The belt was back with us in less than a fortnight for a very reasonable £25 all in. The new rings are a little over 1 1/2 inches outboard of the old ones, and about 2 inches of chain was removed from each side.
Trying it on for the first time on return, the improvement in fit was so good that Ruth handed the key to me immediately (!) saying "Let's just act like I'm wearing normal stuff, and don't talk about it." And quickly got dressed. 'Acting normal' proved rather difficult for both of us for the rest of the day, and I was astonished when Ruth didn't ask to have the belt off for sleep and just switched off the bedlight!
Ruth's enthusiasm backfired slightly though, as in the morning it was clear when has caught her labia on the inner edges of the shield slit - these are smoothly rounded, but the metal is still thin enough to dig in.
This problem has since been solved by edging the shield slit with pvc insulation stripped from 3A electrical wire, held on with superglue. Ruth has now slept for several nights wearing the belt without repeat of this problem.
Aside from some minor bruising on the hips from the waistband, Ruth has no problems with the belt that would preclude her from wearing it long-term. At present, the longest she has worn it continuously is 2 days over a whole weekend, but she routinely now wears - and enjoys - the belt at home and when going out in the evenings.
In all, the belt is a big success and we're sure to have yet more fun with it.
