I spoke with Walter this morning on the phone. He was able to help me out with measurements, and he gave me some info on the deluxe belt.
Walter said that the deluxe belt uses a locking post on the plate instead of the screws. Both ends of the waist belt slip over the locking post, the outer plate goes on the post over that, and the padlock is secured to the post over the outer plate. He seemed to indicate that this deluxe design was less secure. Pierre had previously mentioned he had seen the new design in a posting to the discussion group.
Pierre explains:
Instead of the side screws, the model we have seen had two posts - one on each side of the front plate, and two panels that goes over theese posts.

The procedure to put on the belt:
A) you close the belt over X1 and X2
B) you close the side plates 1 and 2 over X1 and X2
C) you close the top plate over the side plates
D) you close the padlock
The security problem is that you can try to cut the padlock, which is not protected as it is in the classic model (in the classic, the padlock is protected by the screw). According to Walter, this has likely to have the effect of destroying the locking post, which is very thin.

Walter also said that because the deluxe belt uses a locking post, it is more of a medieval design. The rest of the belt was also designed to give a more medieval look, but he didn't give me any details.
Walter also said that the deluxe belt looks nicer than the regular one.
