Hi Altairboy,
In February there was a short exchange on the discussion list about an English manufacturer of cbs named Anne Hugessen.
I remember being in London in the summer 1971 when the company made the press because they had succeded to get their product officially recognized as a 'safety device' and as such it was exempt from some luxury tax. In some of the articles that followed the next days someone from the company told the story how they started making them.
The company went to an industrial fair to show their products (what they were I never knew). As an eye catcher for there exhibition booth the knocked up 2 cbs from steel strips. At the fair they were overwhelmed by the interest of the public in the cbs. They then started thinking about actually producing them.
I never heard anything about cbs for toilet paper in royal palaces or cbs being sold by Harrod's. But then Harrod's is famed for being able to deliver everything everywhere if you can pay for it. I do remember a sentence from some article in '71:" Some customers use them to hang up flower pots or secure a spare tyre, some may even be used on 'erring wives' ". This seems to have engraved itself into my brain, wonder why. I was 21 then now I'm 48.
Going thruogh my archive I found some pictures that were given to me with the info they show the Anne Hugessen stuff. I got no proof for that.
The fourth picture is from the 1979 Centurian Chastity Belts catalogue. The caption with the photo said "Note: This metal chastity belt is adjustable and can be worn by man or woman. We have quite a stock on hand at this writing - 79.95 US Dollars" It seems Centurians bought what was left over when the company went bankrupt. I can't see though what sense it would make for a man to wear this belt.
Keep up the good work. Your site is really the very best at least this side of the Andromeda nebula.
Kind regards
Norbert
