Simple modification to Male Walter standard belt to improve security and comfort

Submitted by: Fax

The standard Walter belt has a small design problem. When worn tightly the belt is usually secure, but when loosened, to allow for more comfort, it is often possible to slip the waist belt over the hips, and gain some degree of freedom. Just a little, but enough.

This is the kind of thing which has put me off the idea of long term wear in my walter since I have found it to be a little too tight for me.

The ends of the waist belt pivot on the securing bolts, allowing each hip to be freed in turn. A solution would be to drill out two more holes to secure the belt straps in two places, however this might be beyond the skill of some readers.

The first solution is very simple, just add another two bolts above the two which secure the belt, this might be enough to solve the problem for some people, and is certainly reason enough for Walter to supply four and not just three bolts with the belt.

The solution I have gone for is more complicated, but still simple to achieve. A small piece of steel 3mm thick, is cut into the following shape, (The steel can be cut with a dremel tool), and simply placed into the locking mechanism before locking the belt. The steel holds the waist belt firmly and prevents much of the side to side rocking, which can allow freedom from the belt. It should be noted that this solution does place extra pressure onto the hinges and lock nut, but I think that the increase in security outweighs this disadvantage.

This has enabled me to wear the belt at a looser setting, which means that a more long term confinement is possible.

I think this is a good thing.
