CB-3000 Security Modification

Submitted by: Prg.X

Using a press, I drilled a hole horizontally through the cage, and threaded the longest locking post through the holes, with my PA segment ring between. For now, a second lock secures it; but, I need to switch to plastic locks, and I think I can find a single security seal that would handle both the normal locking post, and my new PA post.

This isn't really breaking new ground -- people have drilled similar holes for wires; but, I don't know of anyone using the already included locking post before. Everything you need is already in the CB-3000 package if you're willing to use a plastic lock. Using a metal lock might be uncomfortable... in just a short time wearing it, I've had it surprise me with a pinch a few times, and it is also chafing against my inner thigh. Velcro could probably solve those problems.

I'm locked into it now, though by my own hand... my Wife expects the "keys" for Valentine's Day (actually, we'll be using the plastic locks), making tonight the only non-worknight I have to try out new sleeping positions.

I think this is going to work, though there are minor details to work out, most notably that the cross-post is too long right now, and if it slides, it has incredible "pinch" potential. Spacers can probably be used to make it work... I'll have to look for more nylon washers at the hardware store.

I can also already tell that I'll need to solve the problem with the rivet in the hinge... I plan to pick up some sport bandages and try covering it tomorrow. I may order some surgical tubing and try that, as well. I'm tempted to order a couple of the CB-2000 (solid) rings; but, I rather like the idea that my wife can remove and install this hinged ring without me needing to "calm down".

I really hope Frank & Doris will consider incorporating something like these holes (and a post of the appropriate length, or more spacers) into the standard CB-3000 design. And that they'll keep me in mind, if they do :-)

PS - My thanks to KeptForHer for affordable next day shipping on the CB-3000... it made it possible for me to keep my Valentine promise, after all.
