SCC Birdcage Review and Modifications

Submitted by: Bondisan

I received my SCC Birdcage on Halloween after an eight week wait. For various reasons I was able to try it on but not wear it for any length of time. At first glance I was frankly a bit disappointed.

The welds are not as clean as I had expected and I was unsure why it should take an eight week lead time to get something so simple. With the proper tools and materials handy it should not take an experienced metal worker more than a couple hours to make.

Another concern was that the outer loops of the cage and the cage ring had small gaps which could result in pinching or other similar injuries (can anyone say blood blister?).

I was also concerned that I had over estimated the size. I ordered a standard large after making careful measurements, however, it seemed too big after the excitement of putting it on subsided. I ordered a standard large because the cage was very close to correct and the outer ring was only a shade larger than the smallest cock ring I could wear without discomfort. The problem was that the outer ring (the one that fits behind both the cock and balls) was slightly too big which would allow the flaccid cock to be pulled out and the device removed.

This does not mean that it would fall off, only that if I were sufficiently motivated I could get it off and cheat. This little problem was solved by putting some Dr. Scholl's "Molefoam" around the ring. Not only did this make the outer ring smaller (and more comfortable than a smaller steel ring) it added some grip to the ring making it more secure.

By "more secure "here I mean that it is secure enough that I am not tempted to cheat, however, someone could just soak in a little alcohol to remove the foam. Truth be known, the easiest way to cheat would be to cut the hasp of the lock. I have put some thought into fabricating a hasp guard but don't have any time to pursue it for another few weeks. But I digress.

I did have a problem with pinching between the cage ring and loops and solved this with small squares of the same Molefoam that I used around the outer ring. This modification greatly enhanced both comfort and security as it takes real effort to extract myself from it when it is unlocked now and would take real motivation to get out when it is locked. Again, if I were that desperate I would cut off the lock. Luckily, I have motivation to be good in the form of my SO who has been very encouraging lately.

After a few days of wearing it I am beginning to think that this device is better than my "Bondi-boy" belt since it does not restrict motion except that I have to learn how to sit without pinching my balls. All in all I am happy with this device now, although I still wish the welds were cleaner on a device that is this simple and costs $165 + shipping. I am not suggesting that I wish I hadn't ordered it nor should anyone be discouraged from getting one. I have high hopes that this device will provide for our chastity needs.

I also tried a couple of minor modifications which ultimately did not work for me but might for someone else. I took a "J" bend plumbing tube and cut a curved cock cage from it which would be installed using Norbert's now famous stocking trick. I theorized that a curved tube would not be as visible as a straight one and I am convinced that a solid tube is better than the two loop standard setup. I planned to put a bolt through the end to prevent access but allow the stocking to be pulled through. I actually made three of these, one from a metal tube and two from PVC. The metal one showed proof of concept, however, the metal tab which is locked onto the outer ring proved to be too weak and easy to defeat. I was disappointed because it looked real nice.

On to PVC which is stiffer due to thickness and material differences. The first one I goofed on the cut and had to throw away, however the second curved tube worked as I hoped. There was but one little problem: the standard tubing available is either too big (1.4" inner diameter or ID) or too small (1.15" ID). I can easily slip out of the 1.4" ID tube. The small tube is worse since I could, with some effort get myself into it but was then stuck.

Voluntary chastity, for whatever reason, is wonderful. Involuntary chastity would, to quote the populist philosopher Butthead, "suck." It took me most of a nervous hour of squirting lotion, applying ice, and tugging to beat the band to free myself. I decided that I would let this one slide until I can find some tubing that is halfway in between what I have now. I would be happy so send AB some pictures of this modified device to post if there are any requests, as I think it would work well for someone who is either larger or smaller than me.
