Life Magazine - 1971

life.jpg August 13, 1971 - Life Magazine - Part of a larger article about Women in the 70's and how they were treated included this photograph and the following paragraph caption:

The medieval chastity belt symbolizes man's age-old attitude toward woman: she was his property, to use and control. Belts like this modest model locked to an iron ring which fit low around the hips, were probably introduced into Europe by Crusaders after they had seen the more primative methods which Arab men devised to safeguard their sexual preserves.

A kind soul loaned me the magazine, which I have returned. The article was written by Richard Gilman.
